Express News | The Balancer community has released a proposal to wind down operations in an orderly manner and distribute at least $9 million from the treasury to BAL holders.
On September 15, the Balancer governance forum published a proposal for an orderly wind-down of operations. The proposal recommends halting new business expansion, phasing out protocol services, and dissolving the DAO to the extent permitted by legal and practical conditions. The proposal has not yet taken effect and is scheduled for a Snapshot vote from September 25 to 29. If approved, suspendable liquidity pools will enter a withdraw-only status on October 30, while other pools will set protocol fees to zero where contractually permissible; the notice period for contributors will end on October 31. The DAO treasury is currently valued at no less than $9 million based on token prices. After deducting the wind-down budget, the remaining original assets held will be distributed pro rata to BAL holders. The first round of distribution is scheduled to begin in late May 2027. Holders must burn BAL tokens to claim their corresponding share of the treasury, with a claiming period lasting six months. The second round will distribute unused budget, new revenue, and unclaimed portions to addresses that participated in the first round. Final liquidation is planned for completion by late July 2028. The proposal also seeks to cancel the BIP-919 buyback program and establishes a wind-down budget capped at $400,000. Funds recovered from previous attacks are excluded from the treasury distribution and will remain with the affected liquidity providers.
Express News | Balancer extends a white-hat offer to the hacker, requesting the return of approximately $234,000 by 5:00 AM on September 9.
On September 4, Balancer stated that its team had sent an on-chain message to the wallet associated with the August 31 exploit of Balancer V1. The message proposed a bounty in exchange for the return of the stolen funds and pledged that no legal liability would be pursued for the act of returning the funds, provided certain conditions were met. If no response is received by 5:00 AM on September 9, Balancer will employ technical, on-chain, and legal measures to trace the attacker. The incident resulted in losses of approximately $234,000.
Express News | Balancer has issued a warning regarding vulnerabilities in the legacy v1 contracts and advises users to withdraw their funds as soon as possible.
Balancer stated that vulnerabilities exist in the legacy Balancer v1 contracts, which could allow for the draining of liquidity provider (LP) funds. The relevant pools have been deprecated and cannot be paused. Users are advised to withdraw their funds promptly. Other Balancer products remain unaffected.
