Express News | Electrum Releases Version 4.8.2: Fixes Critical Lightning Wallet Backup Issues and Enhances Security
Electrum has released version 4.8.2, introducing multiple security fixes and enhancing the security of the Bitcoin wallet codebase. These fixes are based on reports from researchers including the Bitcoin Red Team, Calle, l0rinc, haoxucu, and m0wer. This version addresses a critical backup issue affecting certain Lightning wallets that use non-deterministic keys and anchor channels. Previously, channel backups and full wallet backups for affected wallets might have lacked the keys required to transfer funds on-chain after requesting a remote force-close. Affected users will receive a warning upon launching Electrum and should export new backups, as old backups cannot correctly restore funds in this scenario. The update also strengthens Lightning HTLC validation, rejects malformed xpub/xprv keys that were previously accepted, expands the scope of codebase security hardening, and prevents Android QR code scanners from reading screenshots. This marks Electrum’s third security-focused release since July, following versions 4.8.0 and 4.8.1.

Express News | Prominent Trader: Bitcoin’s Short-Term Volatility Aims to Liquidate Longs and Undermine Their Confidence
On September 12, prominent trader Killa posted an analysis stating that Bitcoin has recently been experiencing repeated volatility. The market has repeatedly liquidated long positions below previous lows, aiming to clear leverage and gradually erode the confidence of long holders. Killa believes that this persistent sweep of lows typically signals the market's ultimate intention to reward longs; the final sweep will mark a local bottom, followed by an expansion of prices toward new highs. As a quantitative trader focused on BTC, Killa correctly predicted the peak of the current bull market in May 2025 and has over 200,000 followers on the X platform. In mid-April, he shorted Bitcoin at $74,688 and switched to a long position during the broad market decline on June 5.
