Li Auto accelerates in-house R&D as automakers collectively introduce secondary suppliers; is the power battery industry on the verge of a major shift?
Li Auto invested RMB 2.65 billion in Sunwoda Power, accelerating the switch to self-developed batteries across its entire lineup, directly targeting a reduction in reliance on CATL. Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), Xiaomi, XPeng, and others are also intensifying the introduction of secondary and multiple suppliers, restructuring battery pricing and supply chain influence; however, CATL’s market share remains above 50%, and its dominant position has yet to be shaken. The power dynamics within the power battery industry are being quietly reshaped. Li Auto’s RMB 2.65 billion investment in Sunwoda Power, coupled with the announcement of switching its entire vehicle lineup to self-developed batteries, moves the "de-CATLization" strategy from slogan to substantive action. On September 8, CATL’s stock price fell sharply, with A-share $CATL(30075

Ganfeng Lithium's first-half revenue surged by 175.75%, with net profit turning from a loss to a gain year-on-year, driven by the dual forces of rising lithium prices and increased sales volume.
Ganfeng Lithium reported H1 operating revenue of RMB 23.097 billion, a year-on-year increase of 175.75%. Net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company stood at RMB 4.257 billion, marking a turnaround from a loss of RMB 531 million in the same period last year. The surge in performance was primarily driven by two factors: revenue from lithium series products nearly doubled year-on-year to RMB 14.197 billion, while revenue from lithium battery series products also maintained strong growth, reaching RMB 7.831 billion, a year-on-year increase of 163.22%.
Driven by a rebound in lithium prices and the release of production capacity, Tianqi Lithium's first-half revenue grew by 153%, while net profit surged nearly 50-fold.
In the first half of the year, Tianqi Lithium reported operating revenue of RMB 12.242 billion, representing a substantial year-on-year increase of 153.32%. Net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company reached RMB 4.242 billion, surging 4,925.46% year-on-year, nearly 50 times the level recorded in the same period last year. Tianqi Lithium was highly active during the first half of the year, completing an H-share placement and convertible bond issuance, advancing the ramp-up of Phase III of the Greenbushes mine, and strategically investing in Sunwoda Power to establish a downstream presence. The company also completed the re-election of its Board of Directors, further optimizing its corporate governance structure. These initiatives indicate that the company is leveraging the current window of cyclical recovery to accelerate the construction of a vertically integrated ecosystem spanning from upstream mining to downstream applications.
