Berkshire's Q2 net profit doubled, with its single-quarter share repurchase amount reaching the largest in five years, and Google entered its top five holdings.
In the second quarter, Berkshire Hathaway repurchased $4.527 billion of its own shares, compared to approximately $235 million in the first quarter. In the first half of the year, the company repurchased a total of approximately $47.6 billion, with the vast majority occurring in the second quarter. Additionally, the company’s net purchases of equities in the second quarter amounted to approximately $19.8 billion, including about $10 billion spent to acquire Alphabet common stock, which propelled Google into Berkshire’s top five holdings.
