Jensen Huang bets on cybersecurity as the next use case for AI, frankly stating that "creating problems" is equivalent to creating demand.
At the Goldman Sachs Technology Conference, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang identified cybersecurity as the next major use case for AI, noting that AI-driven automation of computer programming is fundamentally altering the pace of cyber offense and defense. Speaking to attendees at the conference in San Francisco on Thursday, Huang stated that cybersecurity is likely to become the next significant application for AI. He explained that AI models are disrupting the cybersecurity industry by automating coding tasks, as the speed at which code vulnerabilities are exploited and require remediation has accelerated dramatically. Last month, NVIDIA provided strong long-term sales forecasts, reinforcing Wall Street's confidence in AI data centers.
Shortages in computing power are driving the expansion of AI infrastructure, with Microsoft planning to double its data center capacity to 38 GW.
According to reports, Microsoft’s planned data center capacity for 2032 includes both owned and leased facilities but excludes computing power rented from “new cloud” providers such as CoreWeave. Currently, out of Microsoft’s approximately 12 GW of data center capacity, only about 2 GW is dedicated to AI chips; by 2032, AI-specific computing power is expected to account for roughly one-third of the total capacity.
U.S. stock markets continued to decline amid concerns over rising interest rates due to accelerating inflation (10th).
U.S. stocks continued their decline. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by $316.56 to close at $52,064.10, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 171.61 points to finish at 26,081.73. Concerns over a prolonged conflict with Iran and reports that Saudi Arabia's crude oil production in August plummeted to its lowest level since 1990 drove oil prices higher, triggering a sell-off after the market open. Additionally, accelerating Producer Price Index (PPI) figures and the U.S. Treasury's buyback program for long-term bonds failing to meet its purchase cap contributed to a further rise in interest rates.
Houthi forces seized a key Red Sea port, escalating the conflict with Saudi Arabia, while reports emerged that Iran has resumed ballistic missile production, sending crude oil prices surging.
Officers of the Yemeni government forces stated that on Thursday, Houthi rebels captured Mokha, a strategic port city in Taiz Province in southwestern Yemen and a key location on the Red Sea. On the same day, the Houthis claimed that Saudi Arabia had launched 64 airstrikes across multiple locations in Yemen within a 24-hour period. They asserted that navigation in the Red Sea remains "unthreatened" and described their military operations as defensive. Shipping industry experts noted that the capture of Mokha allows the Houthis to advance further south, effectively achieving "near-total control" of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The loss of Mokha will "undoubtedly impact maritime security in the region."
