U.S. Adds New Elements Including Copper, Silver, Uranium to 'Critical Minerals' List
The United States officially released a new list of critical minerals, with copper included for the first time. Silver, uranium, and potash were also added to the list.
The latest list of critical minerals published by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has included copper for the first time, marking the most significant adjustment since 2018. Unlike the draft list released at the end of August, the final list also incorporates metallurgical coal and uranium. The list determines which commodities will be included in the Trump administration's Section 232 investigation on critical minerals, which is tied to future tariff policies and trade restrictions.
Copper, silver, and uranium have been included in the updated list of critical minerals by the U.S., causing significant intraday volatility in relevant U.S. stock concepts.
