Bernstein Insights: Is the 'ceiling' for memory price increases approaching?
Bernstein forecasts that in Q3 2026, contract price increases for both DRAM and NAND will narrow to approximately 20%, as weak demand from PCs and smartphones and price ceilings in long-term agreements constrain further upside. Although supply shortages are expected to persist into 2027, the room for further memory price increases has become limited, suggesting the current price rally may be nearing its end.

$38 billion! SK Hynix to build two new memory chip fabrication plants, with capacity scaled up gradually according to customer demand.
SK Hynix will invest approximately KRW 54.3 trillion (about USD 38.282 billion) to build two new wafer fabrication plants in Yongin and Cheongju, South Korea, to expand its capacity for HBM, next-generation DRAM, and NAND. The company is adopting a strategy of 'infrastructure-first, equipment-on-demand,' with production expected to commence gradually between late 2028 and 2029. SK Hynix stated it will flexibly increase capacity based on customer demand to respond to the continuously growing memory market driven by the AI era.
SK hynix's U.S.-based NAND subsidiary Solidigm is preparing for an IPO, but its debt-to-equity ratio of 4,484% remains a critical weakness.
Riding the tailwinds of the AI-driven storage boom, Solidigm, a subsidiary of SK Hynix, plans to list on the Nasdaq. Despite holding the ace of launching the world’s first 122TB-class SSD, its sky-high debt-to-equity ratio exceeding 4,400% and outdated production lines hampered by export controls cast uncertainty over its path to a Nasdaq listing.
Morgan Stanley's Shawn Kim turns from bearish to bullish: memory chip market correction 'nearing an end,' raises SK Hynix EPS forecast by 13%
Kim released a report stating that the most severe adjustment in the memory chip industry is nearing its end, and current valuations are highly attractive. The firm maintains its long-term bullish stance and target prices for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, expecting their share prices to have upside potential of over 60% from current levels. Although third-quarter pricing came in slightly below expectations, structural expansion in AI demand, along with enterprises shifting toward capital returns and long-term supply agreements, will support industry fundamentals.
