On September 16, CoinShares projected that Bitcoin mining companies that have pivoted to artificial intelligence infrastructure are unlikely to return to mining operations, even if Bitcoin prices rebound further. In its latest Q2 Bitcoin Mining Report, CoinShares stated that at least 35 EH/s of hashrate is scheduled to exit publicly listed mining firms, equivalent to 4.7% of the current Bitcoin network's total hashrate of approximately 750 EH/s. Currently, AI infrastructure generates approximately $1.5 million in profit per megawatt for these companies, compared to around $500,000 for Bitcoin mining. Meanwhile, the average pre-tax cash cost for publicly listed miners to produce one BTC in Q2 was approximately $75,500.
