Armed conflict erupted in western Libya, leaving at least five people dead.
Gelonghui, May 9 | According to Libyan sources, intense armed clashes erupted in the western city of Zawiya on the 8th, resulting in at least five fatalities. Reports indicate that multiple armed groups were involved in the conflict that broke out in the early hours of the morning in the central area of Zawiya and its surrounding regions, causing the deaths of five individuals, including a security staff member from the Zawiya refinery. Zawiya Refining Company issued a statement declaring that fierce gunfire had erupted around its oil facilities starting from the early hours of the 8th, with several heavy artillery shells landing within the company’s premises. The company decided to shut down the refinery for the day and evacuate oil tankers from the port. Zawiya Refinery is located to the west of Libya's capital, Tripoli.
CFTC Positioning Report: Net Long Positions in Gold, Silver, and Copper Increase, While Crude Oil Net Longs Decline
Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that, in the week ending May 5, speculators on the New York Mercantile Exchange (COMEX) increased their net long positions in gold by 4,090 contracts to 95,664 contracts; increased their net long positions in silver by 196 contracts to 10,941 contracts; and increased their net long positions in copper by 2,348 contracts to 63,144 contracts. In the week ending May 5, crude oil speculators cut their net long positions in West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude by 2,220 contracts to 10.
