Express News | The Long March 10B launch vehicle is expected to complete its first-stage reusable flight by the end of this year.
On July 10, the Long March 10B launch vehicle successfully achieved controlled recovery of its first stage. Moving forward, the Long March 10B development team will continue optimizing the rocket’s performance and accelerate iterative upgrades of reusable launch vehicle technology, with the first-stage reuse flight anticipated before the end of this year. The Long March 10B, developed under the leadership of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT), a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), is a large liquid-propellant launch vehicle featuring a two-stage tandem configuration with a 5-meter diameter. Its core first stage retains the same configuration as that of the Long March 10A and uses liquid oxygen/kerosene propellant, while the core second stage employs liquid oxygen/methane propellant. The vehicle has a liftoff thrust of approximately 890 metric tons, a liftoff mass of about 760 metric tons, and an overall height of roughly 63 meters for its maiden flight. In reusable mode, it offers a low Earth orbit (LEO) payload capacity of 16 metric tons, meeting diverse mission requirements such as deployment of low-orbit satellite internet constellations and launches of large commercial satellites. Reusability significantly reduces launch costs, giving the rocket advantages of high payload capacity and cost-effectiveness. This mission further validates reusable rocket recovery technology, following earlier low-altitude demonstration flights of the Long March 10 series and safe splashdowns at sea. (CCTV News)
