According to data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, global new registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) rose 3% year-over-year in May to approximately 1.8 million units, marking the third consecutive month of growth. Total sales for the first five months of this year also increased by 0.9% year-over-year. European demand was the primary driver behind the May registration increase, with registrations in the region rising 23% to about 415,000 units.
