As mentioned yesterday, $NASDAQ 100 Index (.NDX.US)$Following the weaker-than-expected US July ADP employment data, there was a slight uptick. Just as everyone was watching whether the index could break above 30,000, it peaked at 29,946—barely touching that level—before sharply retreating by 459 points. It remains above the 50- and 60-day moving averages, but market sentiment appears weak: even companies with strong earnings are falling, possibly because investors doubt their profits can be sustained or due to concerns that AI R&D spending is outpacing profits, raising fears of a bubble, cash flow issues, and future fundraising needs, such as $SpaceX (SPCX.US)$(endless AI spending plus today’s lock-up expiration), $Alphabet-A (GOOGL.US)$ (AI-related negative cash flow), $Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$ (concerns over data centers and supply chains), etc., while $SanDisk (SNDK.US)$reported revenue 6% above expectations, exceeding $8.9 billion, and net profit 31% above forecasts at over $1.6 billion, along with announcing a new $14 billion share buyback program. Unfortunately, the market still wasn’t convinced—it initially rose but then gave back 5%, and pre-market trading saw another drop of over 10%, causing volatility across AI-related semiconductor stocks like $Micron Technology (MU.US)$ $Dell Technologies (DELL.US)$and AMD, except for $Broadcom (AVGO.US)$same $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$Or perhaps the market is placing more emphasis on tomorrow night’s release of July’s non-farm payroll data—will the index test 30,000 again, or...
