Amid escalating tensions in Iran, the three major U.S. equity indices declined overnight (13th), while oil prices surged by 9%, marking their largest single-day gain since 2020. Major Asia-Pacific stock markets were generally weaker this morning (14th), with Taiwan’s and South Korea’s benchmarks each falling approximately 2%, underperforming the region. Following a sharp drop of 2.1% to 3.5% the previous day, China’s three main A-share indexes showed mixed, narrow-range movements in early Tuesday trading. The Shanghai Composite Index briefly fell below the 3,900-point mark, hitting an intraday low of 3,892 points, before stabilizing; it was last trading at 3,909 points, down 3 points or 0.1%. The Shenzhen Component Index and ChiNext Price Index rose 0.2% and 0.7%, respectively. The Hang Seng Index dropped as much as 311 points in early trading, reaching an intraday low of 23,902.
