Express News | Yen Depreciation Boosts Corporate Earnings, Sparking Wave of Upward Revisions Among Japanese Firms
According to Japanese media reports, the weakening yen is delivering significant commercial benefits to Japanese multinational corporations, prompting many companies to raise their earnings forecasts during the latest earnings season. Despite recent intervention measures by the Japanese government, markets expect the yen to remain under pressure. Consequently, companies with substantial overseas operations—including Toyota Motor, Honda Motor, Sony, and Ryohin Keikaku, the parent company of Muji—have all revised their earnings outlooks upward. According to a report by Okasan Securities, among the approximately 1,600 constituent companies of the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX), 159 firms have raised their full-year earnings guidance since July 1, while only 12 have lowered it. The proportion of companies revising expectations upward stands at 86%, the highest level since fiscal year 2016.
