Sluggish electric car sales are driving hot sales for Hertz (HTZ.US), with used Tesla (TSLA.US) prices dropping to $25,000.
The competition for $25,000 electric cars in the US auto market has already won, but not in the way the automotive industry hoped. The average price of Hertz's used cars has dropped to $25,000 as its second-hand car sales have been booming. According to the app, since January of this year, Hertz has adopted the Tesla sales model, and 20,000 of its global fleet of electric cars have entered dealer lots, accounting for nearly one-third of the company's existing inventory of electric cars. This move is seen as a stumbling block for Hertz's electric car strategy. In 2021, Hertz had planned to order hundreds of thousands of Teslas.

On June 7th, Glon Hui reported that car rental company Hertz is considering selling at least $700 million in secured debt and convertible bonds to bolster its balance sheet. The company's stock price fell 12.6% to a historical low of $3.47 and closed down about 5%. Sources said the company's advisers have begun to contact potential investors about issuing secured bonds and added that no final decisions have been made and the size and terms of any financing may change.
