Tencent Buys Back 3.3 Million Shares to Counteract Sales by Investor Naspers
Tencent Holdings (HKG:0700) repurchased about 3.3 million shares on Tuesday, according to a Wednesday filing with the Hong Kong bourse.
Tencent's 100 billion repurchase plan outperformed the majority shareholders' holdings reduction, and the Q1 Hong Kong stock purchase hit a record high. Buyback + dividends are beneficial to stock prices
① In the first quarter of this year, the amount of Hong Kong stock repurchases reached HK$49.61 billion, more than three times that of the same period last year; ② Tencent once again became the “king of Hong Kong stock repurchases”, with a repurchase amount of 14.83 billion dollars in the first quarter, which basically exceeded the rate of reduction in holdings of Prosus, the majority shareholder.
The majority shareholder of Tencent Holdings reduced its holdings by more than 16 billion dollars in March. The agency said 100 billion repurchases are expected to ease market pressure
① How many Tencent shares does the majority shareholder Prosus hold? ② How is Tencent Holdings dealing with this situation?
