Goldman Sachs has sharply revised upward its forecast for global low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite installations in 2031 from 42,000 to 305,000 units—an increase of 634%. The key driver behind this historic revision is the inclusion, for the first time, of space-based data centers in its industry forecasting framework. Goldman Sachs expects space-based data centers to overtake satellite internet as the primary growth engine for LEO satellites starting in 2029, accounting for nearly 80% of incremental installation demand by 2031.
