The South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that it will proceed with the taxation of virtual assets as planned, starting from January 1 next year.
According to Edaily, Moon Kyung-ho, the Director of the Income Tax Division of South Korea's Ministry of Finance and Economy, stated at an emergency inspection seminar on virtual asset taxation that the government will proceed with its original plan to impose taxes on virtual assets starting January 1 of next year. This marks the first public statement by the Ministry of Finance and Economy regarding the taxation of virtual assets. Under the current Income Tax Act, income generated from the transfer or lending of virtual assets will be classified as miscellaneous income, with a tax rate of 22% (including 20% for other income tax and 2% for local income tax) applied to earnings exceeding 2.5 million Korean won. The taxation will apply to approximately 13.26 million investors. Director Moon further revealed.
CLARITY is on track to pass within the year, but Wall Street is not willing to wait.
The bill has yet to pass, but traditional brokerages have already entered the market in full force.
