Japan's service sector activity contracted at an accelerated pace in July for the 18th month in a row, as restrictions introduced to combat a new epidemic hit business activity and confidence, according to the latest data. Jibun Bank/IHS Markit Japan's service sector PMI fell to 47.4 in July from 48.0 in June, the 18th consecutive month below the 50 rise and fall line. Berkshire Hathaway, owned by Buffett, has earned $8 billion from American Express shares this year, reaching nearly $25 billion since it began investing in the financial services company in 1994. As of the end of last year, Berkshire held 152 million American Express shares. Since then, the stock has risen about 45%, increasing the value of Berkshire's stake to $26 billion from $18 billion at the start of the year.
